There are several hundred "free markets" in Beijing. They are
scattered throughout the city and are best described as "neighborhood" markets,
set up to serve several city blocks or apartment complexes. Most are all-day markets,
typically open 6 to 8 hours a day.
In this chapter, we'll visit 4 different types of all-day free
markets:
- San Li Tun Free Market, in the upscale embassy area

- Jin Tai Road Free Market, along a busy main street

- Hubei Collective Market, tucked
in an alleyway between two apartment complexes

- Chongwenmen Avenue Free Market, in a typical high-rise apartment neighborhood

- "Blue Bridge" Fruit Market, specializing in imported fruit.
