There are two types of produce don't fit into the wholesale and retail distribution patterns described in the earlier chapters of this Photo Tour -- watermelons ( - xigua) and Chinese cabbage ( - da baicai;  in the U.S. it's called nappa cabbage).

In this chapter, we'll walk the streets of Beijing during two unique phenomena:

• In the summer, during the height of the watermelon season.
  
• In late November, when the cabbage harvest reaches the city.
