Demise of Morning Markets in Ningbo
Like Beijing, morning markets in Ningbo are becoming scare in downtown areas, as inner city reconstruction is bulldozing old residential neighborhoods to make way for high-rise office buildings.

Due to the congestion and litter that these morning markets generate, the Ningbo city government is discouraging their continuation and it is erecting multi-story buildings to house "free markets".  Even though farmers pay steeply discounted fees at these indoor markets, the move toward indoor markets favors resellers.  Small truck farmers around the outskirts of Ningbo don't have the time to participate in the all-day markets and don't grow enough produce to justify buying stall space at an all-day market.  Farmers who go to the morning markets sell their leftover produce to a reseller at the nearby Yi Jia Bridge Market or sell from the back of their bikes as they peddle back to their farm. If the government starts to strictly limit the morning markets, these farmers will have to readjust to a modernizing world.
