A farmer from Anhui.

This lady came to Shanghai from the poor province of Anhui 1½ years ago to make a better living in the big city. She and her 2 brothers rent a ½ acre of land on the outskirts of Shanghai and come to this market every day. She happily says they're doing well enough not to even consider moving back to Anhui.

Produce is plentiful year-round in Shanghai.

Some farmers who haven't sold out when the market closes at 8:00 am pack up their bikes and take to the streets selling illegally at entrance ways to apartment complexes or quiet street corners. Others sell out to re-sellers who go to the all-day markets. Only as last resort do they go to the all-day market themselves.
