A Word from the Market Manager
Mr. Chen Xudong, Deputy General Manger (
) of this busy market, took a few
minutes to talk with me about the advantages of having the Shanghai City government play
an active role in managing this market:
|
- Sellers don't have to handle money during the busy market hours. Buyers simply pay the
Market Management Office for what they purchase. That Office deducts the vendor's 6%
market management fee and 1.5% of taxes from each sale and remits the remainder to
the vendor.
- Each vendor has a locked stall so it's not necessary for him to sleep at the market to
watch the produce as is typical at other outdoor wholesale markets.
