In Beijing, there are very few morning markets that start at 5:30 a.m. and break down by 8:00 a.m. as there are in Shanghai.

One of the largest, well-known morning markets is on a side street near the Great Wall Hotel in the Chaoyang District of the city. It runs year-round from 6:30 - 10:00 a.m. on Saturdays; 6:30 - 9:30 a.m. other days. The market is on a very wide side street with very little traffic, amid a cluster of high-rise apartment buildings.  It takes place in front of regular shops that line the street and also open early to get the early shopper's business. Although there are quite a few vendors at this market, in the winter months, only10% are growers. The others buy produce at the wholesale markets. In the summer, about 80% are growers.
