An Endless Variety of Sweets

The Chinese generally prefer salty and savory items for breakfast, but you can find an impressive assortment of sweet and semi-sweet doughnuts and crullers also available from street vendors.  Although coffee is gradully becoming more popular as a beverage, a cup of coffee and a doughnut for breakfast is not a typical Chinese breakfast.  Sweets such as these are eaten with a warm thin soy bean broth or with a thick red bean porridge.
